MORE ABOUT THIS COURSE

DESCRIPTION

To be fully prepared for the exam, we will need to cover ten core units and five practice units. Each class meets one time a week for an hour and a half per class. Each level runs approximately eight weeks, depending on holidays. It's expected that students will complete ~48 hours per level. At the beginner level we will work to complete the first five units:

Prep: Computational Thinking fundamentals and Number Systems

Unit 1: Object-Oriented Programming

Unit 2: Class Structure and Design

Unit 3: Arrays and Algorithms

Unit 4: Conditions and Logic

PREREQUISITES

TARGET AUDEINCE

What people are saying about Computational Thinkers

Commonly Asked

Commonly Asked

How long does it take to completely prepare for the AP CS A Exam?

It is suggested by the College Board that students have 96 hours of classroom work before attempting the exam.

Can I take the exam anytime I like?

No.  Exams are managed by the AP College Board and are given at designated times in the year.  The APCS A exam is held on the 1st Wednesday in May of each year.  Registration for these exams should begin in October of the year prior.

Can I get college credit for taking the AP Exam Prep classes?

Unfortunately, no.  The prep courses with Computational Thinkers are options parents take for their child when their current school does not offer this as part of their curriculum.

What if I don't pass the APCS A Exam?

First of all, you wouldn't be alone.  Only a small percentage of people complete the exam with a 3, 4 or even a 5.  It's okay if you don't pass the first time.  Consider it an opportunity to see how the exam day goes, learn what your weaknesses were, study a bit more and try again.  You don't have to retake any prep course.  We suggest you practice more by taking last year exams, over over until you get a or 4 or 5 on your own.  When you are ready you can register for the exam again in October.

Agreed. There are a million and one free (and paid) classes and apps for kids to "Learn to Code".

Some other great resources are Code.org,Khanacademy.org, Codecombat.com,Codecademy.com and numerous more. These are excellent resources that students can use to accomplish the goal of learning to code. However, the main thing that all of these sites are missing, is 1-on-1 attention and immediate feedback from a real person. This is what sets us apart. Instructors at Computational Thinkers not only teach online micro lessons but also teach IRL with real students face-to-face. We see first hand how much more progress students make when a teacher and classmates are involved in the learning process compared to independent online pre-recored courses.

Learning to code is a wonderful skill to have. However, every recruiter within the industry will tell you that the coding skills come second to the ability to problem solve with the use of technology. That's what Computational Thinkers aims to do. We want to give you the individual attention you need in order to be the best problem solver you can be using today's technology.
